National Geographic released a story about tracking animal migrations on its education Web site (http://education.nationalgeographic.com/media/richmedia/0/196/project/geo-story-animal-migrations.html). The GeoStory features a study led by USGS researchers Michael Kochert (scientist emeritus), Mark Fuller, and Linda Schueck that used satellite telemetry to track the migration of Swainson's hawks from their breeding grounds in western North America to their wintering grounds in Argentina approximately 7,500 miles away. The story presents a map of the migration route and contains a link to details about a publication that describes the migration patterns of Swainson’s hawks.
