Monitoring the Snow and Growing Seasons

Submitted by atripp on

The snow season has become shorter and the growing season longer over the past 20 years in Alaska's Arctic National Parks. The NPS Arctic Inventory and Monitoring Network (ARCN) uses MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) satellite images and remote automated cameras to monitor the timing of the growing season and the snow cover in five large national parks in northern Alaska.

Resilience of Wetlands and Lagoons to Hurricane Sandy Impact

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The study goal is to document the damage and response of coastal ecosystems, including wetland and maritime forests, marshes, and submerged aquatic vegetation, to Hurricane Sandy. In reaching that goal, we will produce maps and remote sensing technologies for identifying those coastal resources that are most vulnerable to degradation and propose methods for resource management mitigation before irreparable loss.
