Coastal Wetlands of Louisiana

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

In response to accelerated wetland loss in Louisiana, two State laws were passed: Act 6 of the 2nd Extraordinary Session of the Louisiana State Legislature in 1989 and the CWPPRA of 1990. These laws were passed to conserve, restore, create, and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands.  The USGS National Wetlands Research Center Spatial Analysis Branch monitors the wetlands through image acquisition and habitat mapping.  The restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss.
